ERASMUS- KA2 PROJECT: INTERNATIONALISATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTES IN INDIA AND NEPAL

Nepal Engineering College is a member institute in InterNepInd consortium consisting of nine universities & colleges located in Spain, Portugal, India and Nepal. The consortium works together to support the internationalization process of Higher Education Institutions in India and Nepal promoting a comprehensive process based on strategy design, capacity building, development of structures and networking. As a result, international opportunities will be created for different stakeholders: from students to teachers, researchers, managers and administrative staff.

The project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, KA2 2019 Capacity Building in the field of Higher Education and will last until November 2021.

Objectives of the project are as follows

  1. To carryout comprehensive research to figure out the practices for internationalization of higher education in India and Nepal in order to serve as a basis for the internationalization processes of InterNepInd partner HEIs (SCET, NMREC, VESIM, IPSA, SMAID, NEC and SEC). This first specific objective addresses specially the needs of the managers and technical staff of participating HEIs from India and Nepal giving them the state of the art of what is being done in terms of internationalization of higher education in India and Nepal as a baseline to design the strategies for their own institutions.
  2. To design internationalization strategies for Indian and Nepalese partners. As a result of a participatory process each Indian and Nepalese partner will prepare their strategy that will guide their international activity for the forthcoming years. This second specific objective addresses the needs of managers and technical and administrative staff that will have a key element (the strategy) for the advancement of internationalization in their institutions. Teachers, researchers and students will also benefit from the implementation of the strategy being aware of the opportunities they can have at international level.
  3. To train the appointed staff for the successful implementation and management of the internationalization strategy. The needs of teachers/researchers will also be addressed as specific training sessions will also be organized for them about recognition mechanisms and international projects management.
  4. To create an International Office in each of the partner country HEI as a way support the implementation of the internationalization strategy, to promote it and to give support to all the target groups participating in the process. Students, teachers/researchers will also benefit from an office where they can request information about possibilities to participate in the international activity of the university (mobility, projects) and they can receive guidance about how to do it.
  5. To create a network of Asian and European partners as a way to promote regional and international cooperation. Agreements will be signed to promote student and staff incoming and outgoing mobility, international research projects and double degrees and joint PhDs. Teachers/researchers and students will also benefit from this network as they will be able to participate in joint initiatives with them (mobility between members of the network, projects, joint degrees).
