Dear prospective students and their guardians,

“Develop a temple of learning that shall make higher technical education
accessible to larger section of aspirant Nepali youth at affordable cost”

has been our vision since Nepal Engineering College (nec) was founded 16 years ago in1994. In the overarching lap of the Chagunarayan, one of the World Heritage sites in the Kathmandu Valley, nec is constantly effortful in moving towards the direction set by our original vision.
In our considered opinion, poverty in our resource-rich country is a result of very low rate of adoption of appropriate and efficient technology and a centralized administrative planning which ignores sustainable infrastructure development at the cost of nation-building and social integration. However history of this country does demonstrate that there have been students of engineering who were pioneer enough to learn modern education for adoption of appropriate and efficient technology and use it for the sake of sustainable national development. Such a student was electrical engineer Padma Sundar Malla (1890-1974 AD) whose dedication to acquire modern engineering education even adventurously inspired to go to British India, Japan and as the first Nepali step on to the USA in 1918. And Padma was the first son of the soil who in late 1930’s built the Morang Hydro plant which supplied power for the Biratnagar Jute Mill-the first factory of modern Nepal. Indeed these were the historical actions that employed appropriate and efficient technology to harness nation’s resources and enrich the country with industrial productivity.
With the affordable technical education available, nec looks forward to have crop of students and engineers in the role model of Padma Sundar Malla. nec shall always be effortful to keep pace with the innovation, change and reform in technical education around the world. Accordingly, it has introduced or on-the way to introduce Bachelor and Masters level courses in the areas such as energy, interdisciplinary water resources management, transportation engineering and management and disaster risk management. New areas of learning are evolving, almost every day, to prepare ourselves for this millennium and beyond. Science and technology has become global, with equal value from a remote village to a metropolis.
Now that you have decided to become a part of nec to fulfill your academic aspiration, I welcome you on behalf of nec family and wish you good luck in your academic endeavor. I am sure you will start to enjoy and appreciate the cultural, natural and learning milieu at nec which carefully nurtures the good
engineer in you.
