A group of nine students from Nepal Engineering College (nec), accompanied by Prof. Ahutosh Shukla, participated in a study visit to China on July 24-August 2, 2012. The study visit was organized and supported by China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC) in association with China Study Center in Nepal. The objective of the study visit was to expose the students with the technology advancement and infrastructure growth in China in the areas of hydropower, transportation and communication and urban services. The visit involved travel and visit to five important cities in China that have witnessed significant technology and infrastructure growth over past two decades. These included Kunming, Yichang, Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai.  Visit to the Three Gorges Dam, Olympic stadium in Beijing, especially Brid’s Nest and Water Cube- the two landmark infrastructures, Shanghai Museum of Urban Planning and Hangzhou Bay Bridge, were some of the memorable experiences of the students. While in Beijing the team members could visit some of the cultural artifacts that are testimony to rich Chinese civilization and cultural heritage.

Upon returning from the study visit the students who participated in the study visit shared their learning and experiences with their colleagues. A slide show on Three Gorges Dam was organized wherein photographs and a short movie on the making of the dam was presented. The students especially appreciated the integrated and users’ and environment friendly perspectives approach in the infrastructure development in China. The students also got opportunity to see Chinese Society and people and their lifestyle- a memory that will always remain with them. A half day presentation on the Experiences on the Study Visit to China has been planned, which will be organized shortly.
